Beth and Jonny - The Most Bristol Couple - Bristol Harbourside Engagement Session

Thank goodness for Bristol Girl for connecting me with the most incredible individuals. These two kindly submitted to my persistence to capture their post-engagement bliss and what a dream it was.

From start to finish, this session was a blast! Beth and Jonny’s love for each other is so natural and supportive, and it showed in every frame. Their playful interactions and genuine affection were so easy to capture and as a friend, so lovely to observe.

Beth is the ultimate Bristol Girl - so staying true to that we hit up three iconic Bristol spots.

Ashton Court Estate, where its lovely landscape served as a perfect backdrop for their photos. It allowed us to capture imagery that placed focus on them as a couple and gave some incredible winter vibes.

Next, we headed to St. Nick’s Market. This vibrant spot, bustling with life and color, added a lively touch to the session. A dynamic setting for some fun and energetic imagery!

And of course, no Bristol shoot, or day out with Beth, would be complete without a visit to the Harbourside. We wrapped up the session with a classic touch—opening up a beer and soaking in the relaxed, waterfront vibe.

Here are some of my tips for the perfect Engagement Photoshoot

  1. Choose Meaningful Locations: Select locations that are special to you as a couple. Whether it’s a favorite park, a vibrant market, or a cozy café, choosing places with personal significance can make the session feel more authentic and intimate. Beth and Jonny made sure we capture a shot outside of “Under the Stars” as it is where they have shared some very special memories.

  2. Plan Your Outfits: Coordinate outfits that complement each other without being too matchy-matchy. Opt for colors that work well with the location and season. Avoid overly bright colors or busy patterns that can distract from the focus of the photos. Their choice of wear was perfect for it being Winter!

  3. Be Comfortable: Wear clothes that you feel comfortable and confident in. Comfort is key to looking natural and relaxed in your photos. If you’re comfortable, it will show in your expressions and body language.

  4. Bring Personal Touches: Incorporate personal items or props that reflect your relationship. This could be a favorite book, a cherished blanket, or even a beer! These details can add a unique and personal touch to your photos.

  5. Relax and Have Fun: The best photos come when you’re having a good time. Don’t stress about posing—just enjoy each other’s company and let your natural chemistry shine through. Genuine moments and laughter often make for the most memorable images.

  6. Communicate with Your Photographer: Share your vision and any specific ideas you have for the session. Discussing your preferences and any concerns beforehand helps ensure that your photographer can tailor the shoot to fit your style and expectations. We all met prior to the shoot to discuss locations. I offer the ability to chat details prior to any booking.

  7. Trust Your Photographer: Trust in your photographer’s expertise and creativity. This might be my biggest tip. I always say I work best with people who trust in my ability entirely. Whilst we planned ahead, Beth and Jonny ultimately gave me the ability to capture their story - trusting in me and it sure as hell worked out. Read what they have to say below!

“Madi is a very talented photographer who took our engagement photos. I would not have thought of having engagement photos taken before but looking back on the photographs now, Madi captured the feeling of giddy excitement and fun that sums up mine and my partner's relationship perfectly. Madi was highly professional and made us both feel at ease during the session. Madi edited the photos quickly and sent them in a useful digital format. Highly recommend.”

“I've had the honour of being photographed by Madison twice now, once for an engagement shoot and once for an individual shoot. I'm someone who is typically very nervous in front of a camera and I've always hated having my picture taken, but Madi has made me feel not only super comfortable but also super CONFIDENT! She is the loveliest and most talented person who puts you at ease instantly, as well as making it a really fun and empowering experience. Madi had great ideas for poses and prompts, but was also flexible and took 'requests' of specific photos I wanted, which was really fun. Her editing style is also really lovely so the pictures look stunning, I can't stop looking at them! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Madi to anybody, it was honestly the best experience and i'm so grateful to her for her time and expertise! Thank you Madi for making me feel fab about myself!!!!”
