Time to Escape: Why Couples Portraits Are Essential on Your Wedding Day - Advice from a Newcastle Wedding Photographer

Every time I work with my couples, I always ask where they can carve out just 15 minutes for couples portraits on their big day. It doesn’t matter if it’s sneaking off after the meal or waiting until the sun sets—just make sure you make time for it. Trust me, you won’t regret it. While I’m primarily a documentary photographer, I totally understand that a little bit of structure can make a big difference. Couples portraits are one of my favorite moments to capture.

When else are you going to do this?

Sure, candid shots of the ceremony are beautiful, but there’s something so special about a singular photo of just you and the love of your life, simply being yourselves. You’re at your best—feeling and looking incredible—so your wedding day is the perfect time to capture that magic.

You need some time, just the two of you!

One of the most incredible aspects of a wedding day is having all your family and friends in the same place, probably for the one and only time in your life. That’s such a rare and special thing. But at the same time, it’s your day. Taking 15 minutes for just the two of you gives you a break from the whirlwind of the day and a moment to reflect on the fact that you’ve just married the love of your life. How awesome is that?

Whether we take photos or not, I encourage you to prioritize this moment—a chance for you two to breathe, freak out a little (in the best way), and truly savor that indescribable feeling of being newly married.

TLDR: Why Couples Portraits Matter for Your Wedding Day - Couples portraits are a must on your wedding day! As a Newcastle-Upon-Tyne Wedding Photographer and North East Wedding Photographer, I encourage you to carve out just 15 minutes for portraits. It’s your chance to capture a quiet, intimate moment just the two of you, away from the wedding hustle. Not only does it give you beautiful wedding day photos, but it also allows you a brief moment to reflect on that fact that you just married the love of your f*cking life. Trust me, you won’t regret making time for those stunning couples portraits.
